Dr. med. Alexander Mayer

After completing his specialist training in orthopedics and trauma surgery at two prestigious German university hospitals, as well as a two-year position as a senior physician at the Aukamm Clinic for Operative Rheumatology and Orthopedics, Dr. Mayer became a partner in the orthopedic group practice at the Aukamm Clinic in 2008. He quickly developed a specialization in knee and hip surgery. Dr. Mayer is particularly passionate about patient-specific prosthetic care for the knee joint. His expertise includes custom-made mini-prostheses, partial prostheses, state-of-the-art anatomical surface prostheses, and fully customized prosthetics. He is also skilled in performing complex knee revision surgeries, even after multiple previous operations. When it comes to the hip joint, in addition to offering various stem models, including custom stems for anatomical reconstruction, his focus is on muscle-sparing surgical approaches. Over the years, Dr. Mayer has treated nearly 2,000 patients with artificial hip and knee joints. His background as a competitive athlete, including participation in the 1988 Olympics as a swimmer, has kept him connected to the world of sports. Today, he approaches patient care with the same passion that fueled his top-level athletic career.
