Prof. Dr. med. Basem Ishak

Professor Dr. Basem Ishak is an internationally recognized specialist in the treatment of spinal disorders. For many years, he led the Spine Department at the Neurosurgical Clinic of Heidelberg University Hospital. His extensive training includes two years of postgraduate education in orthopedic spinal surgery at the FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence in Munich-Harlaching (Schön Clinic), specialist training in neurosurgery at Heidelberg University Hospital, and a fellowship in Seattle, USA. Due to his acknowledged expertise in minimally invasive spinal surgery and his ability to handle complex spinal disorders, as well as his numerous scientific publications, Professor Ishak serves as the Deputy Editor of the Global Spine Journal. He is a member of the international AO Spine Committee, which oversees physician training in Germany and abroad. Professor Ishak is also one of the few specialists in Germany to have earned both the Master Certificate from the German Spine Society (DWG) and the Advanced Expert Certificate from the European Spine Society (Eurospine). Additionally, he advises several Bundesliga clubs as a sports physician, including TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, and serves as a team doctor in the German Water Polo League. He has also earned the FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine, which underscores his extensive expertise in the care of professional athletes.
