Buccal fat removal surgery (bichectomy)

Lumps of Bisha are fat packets enclosed in a capsule between the skin and the mucous membrane of the cheek. They occupy the space between the temporal zone and the lower jaw. In infancy, fat lumps simplify the process of breast-sucking and protect facial muscles and nerves from injury. In adults, fat packs lose their functionality, but at the same time, they affect the contour of the face, giving it additional volume. Removing buccal fat reduces the cheeks' volume and helps emphasize the cheekbones since they are just above the area from which the fat is removed. After anesthesia is administered, the plastic surgeon makes incisions 1-2 cm long from the inside of the cheek at the level of the 6th tooth. Thus, the surgeon gets access to fat capsules. After fat removal, the doctor applies cosmetic stitches and treats them with antiseptic. Finally, the area of the operation is fixed from the outside with an elastic bandage. The bichectomy lasts about 30-40 minutes. After surgery and for 1-3 days, there may be difficulties with chewing and swallowing. Then, the doctor will set a date for the removal of stitches and examination.
