About the offer

Lutetium is commonly used for castration-resistant advanced metastatic prostate cancer. The drug itself is a liquid with a radioactive material. LU-177 PSMA treatment aims to kill cancer cells by beta radiation of the isotope Lutetium-177. The radioactive particle binds explicitly to prostate cancer cells regardless of their location. As a result, the drug destroys the primary tumor and distant metastases. Our doctors take blood tests and examine liver and kidney functions before the procedure. But, first, a fresh Ga68-PSMA PET scan should be provided to detect all metastases and determine how well the particular malignant cells accumulate the PSMA drug. A PET scan is essential to successful treatment planning and further results tracking. Note that the package does not include a Ga68-PSMA PET scan, and the patient should send the scan before the package planning. All required standard pre-procedure diagnostics are included in the offer. During the therapy, the patient is injected intravenously for 20 minutes with the Lutetium medication. After that, he stays in a closed ward protected from radiation for two days because he is a beta radiation source. During the action of the radionuclide, he receives drugs to protect the thyroid gland and kidneys, and copious drinking, if necessary, means to reduce nausea and vomiting. The patient can take personal belongings to the ward. They will not become radioactive. The zone of radiation does not exceed 1 millimeter. A day after the therapy, the patient is given a control examination, dosimetry, and kidney scintigraphy. The therapy is particularly suitable for patients with advanced prostate cancer following standard therapies such as antihormonal therapy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. The side effects are minimal, and the treatment is very well tolerated. Doctors achieve reduced prostate cancer metastases up to complete remission as Lu 177 treatment results. However, repeating a couple of sessions at several months intervals might be required.

What is needed to decide if the therapy is suitable for you?

A detailed anamnesis of the previous course of the disease is required to decide whether this therapy is suitable. In addition, the doctor typically requests the last scan (ideally, a PET CT or PSMA PET CT scan should be provided). Please note that the scan is not included in this offer and should be provided before the package planning.

Who is an ideal candidate?

If you are diagnosed with prostate cancer that has spread beyond the prostate and progressed after other therapies (including hormonal therapies (ADT) and at least one chemotherapy), you may be eligible. The indications can vary from country to country. Check if you are the right candidate by contacting us.

When the treatment can't be performed?

The therapy can not be offered or should be delayed in the following cases: severe renal insufficiency, urinary retention, urinary incontinence, bone marrow depression, serious changes in the blood count, recent radiation treatment, insufficient PSMA accumulation, etc.
