Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis is non-surgical, comprehensive care that purifies the blood when the kidneys can't do this. During hemodialysis, the blood goes into a machine through tubes. Inside this machine, there's a filter (dialyzer). It works like a mini-kidney, cleaning the blood from waste and extra fluid. A crucial part of this care involves connecting an artery and a vein (an arteriovenous fistula) in the arm. Hemodialysis starts with a detailed evaluation of the patient's health history and physical exam, including a nephrologist's consultation. Several laboratory tests and ultrasounds of the pelvis and abdomen are done to get a clearer picture of the patient's health. After diagnosing the condition, the medical team places the arteriovenous fistula. A dialysis session follows this. The patient receives appropriate post-procedure care and symptomatic treatment as needed. People with chronic kidney diseases, whose kidneys can't sufficiently filter out waste and excess fluid from the blood, often need hemodialysis. It can provide comprehensive care for these patients along with medication and lifestyle changes. Dialysis allows patients to receive necessary treatment for their kidney issues with minimal disruption to their daily lives. Moreover, it eliminates the requirement for extended hospital stays and provides personal care and advice from a kidney specialist.
