Breast cancer treatment with radiotherapy

Radiotherapy for breast cancer is a complex treatment method that affects cancer cells through exposure to ionizing radiation. It is used with other methods, most often with surgery or chemotherapy. Radiotherapy is used at all stages of breast cancer because it helps completely cure cancer or improve the quality of a patient's life. Radiotherapy should be well-planned to pinpoint the area affected by the tumor and preserve adjacent tissues as much as possible. For that, a comprehensive diagnosis is carried out. First, a 3D model of the patient's body is created based on CT scanning to locate the malignant neoplasm. Then, with the help of computer programs, doctors determine the total radiation dose and one-time exposure in one session. Finally, the marking of the irradiation field is applied to the skin with a particular marker. During the procedure, the patient is placed on a couch and fixed to exclude involuntary movements. The irradiation takes only a few minutes. Sessions are held daily. In a week, the patient is exposed five times. After that, a woman is given two days to rest. But the number of procedures and their duration can be adapted to the patient's body and the reaction of the tumor.
