Trigeminal neuralgia treatment with Botox injections

Botulinum therapy is an effective treatment method to help patients return to their everyday lives just a few days after trigeminal neuralgia. Botox injections temporarily paralyze the affected nerve and allow the patient to eliminate the need to take medications. The treatment process includes the following steps:Determination of injection sites and their disinfection.  Electromyography to measure the bioelectric activity of muscles and determine where drugs should be administered. Injections with special syringes with tiny needles. They are inserted at an angle of either 45 or 90 degrees to a depth of not more than 7-10 mm. After the injection, the skin is disinfected again. The dosage is determined based on the specific area that needs to be targeted. The procedure is relatively quick, usually lasting up to 30 minutes. After receiving this treatment, patients usually notice immediate results, especially in improving nervous tics and facial asymmetry caused by facial nerve spasms. In addition, the procedure is well-tolerated, with infrequent side effects. Sometimes, injections may cause slight swelling called edema. However, this is typically temporary and tends to go away independently after a few days.
