Prof. Dr. med. Sigrid Kastl, MHBA

Prof. Dr. med. Sigrid Kastl is a highly experienced surgeon with a particular focus on visceral and colorectal surgery, specialized visceral surgery, and proctology. At Medias Klinikum, she applies her broad surgical expertise to the management of patients with complex and oncological diseases. Prof. Kastl received her medical education at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich before completing her surgical training at Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. She obtained her habilitation in 2001. Her qualifications include additional specialization in visceral surgery and proctology, together with European certification in colorectal surgery from the European Board of Surgical Quality. She also contributes to postgraduate medical education and serves as an examiner in surgery, visceral surgery, and proctology. Her professional background also includes service with the German Armed Forces. As a temporary service member and senior field surgeon, she worked at the German Armed Forces Hospital in Ulm. Her international experience includes clinical study visits at Cornell Medical School in New York and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, as well as medical assignments in Afghanistan, Namibia, and Kosovo. Throughout her career, Prof. Kastl has held surgical positions at several major medical institutions, including the University Surgical Clinic Hamburg-Eppendorf, the German Armed Forces Hospital in Ulm, Deggendorf Medical Center, Fürth Medical Center, and Reinbek Hospital. From 2013 until 2026, she was responsible for the Department of Surgery as head of department and chief physician at St. Josef Hospital in Braunau am Inn. Since September 2026, Prof. Kastl has been part of the team at Medias Klinikum, where her extensive experience in complex visceral, colorectal, and oncological surgery complements the clinic's specialized treatment approach.
