About the department

The department of neurology at University Hospital rehts der Isar of the Technical University (TUM) Munich includes a medical team of more than 50 doctors, including more than 20 specialists, and all the necessary specialist therapists to take care of the patients. Approximately 3,500 inpatients have been treated annually – plus several thousand outpatients every year. The department has 60 beds in the wards equipped to provide the best neurological care. A stroke unit also operates at the department, with twelve beds. Other structural parts are - an outpatient clinic for musicians medicine and an interdisciplinary TUM Neuroimaging Center (TUM-NIC). The scientific focus of the department is on translational research, the findings of which should benefit patients as quickly as possible ("from bench to bedside and back"). The department has more than 10 working groups in different specialist areas of neurology.

All central and peripheral nervous system diseases are treated and diagnosed at the department. The diagnosis is based on ultrasound methods, clinical electrophysiology, cerebrospinal fluid testing, neuropsychological and neuroradiological assessments. Treatment options are generally conservative or intensive care.
