Prof. Dr. med. Udo Vanhoefer

Prof. Dr. med. Udo Vanhoefer is an internationally recognized authority in internal oncology and hematology, currently serving as the senior director of oncology at the Asklepios Clinic Barmbek. With a career spanning over three decades, he is particularly distinguished for his expertise in gastrointestinal tumors, including cancers of the stomach, esophagus, and colon, as well as for his work in implementing innovative immunotherapies. His clinical approach is defined by a commitment to personalized cancer care, integrating molecular findings and state-of-the-art research into individualized treatment protocols for his patients. Before joining the Asklepios team, Prof. Dr. Vanhoefer served for over two decades as the chief physician of the hematology, oncology, and gastroenterology clinic at the Catholic Marien Hospital Hamburg. His academic and clinical foundation was built at the West German Tumor Center in Essen, one of Germany's premier oncology institutions, and supplemented by high-level international research at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in the United States. As a long-standing member of several S3 guideline commissions and a professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen, he remains a central figure in shaping national treatment standards and advancing medical oncology through both leadership and education.
