Prof. Dr. med. Paul Kremer

Prof. Dr. med. Paul Kremer is a distinguished neurosurgeon and a leading expert in intraoperative imaging and microsurgery. Since 2005, he has served as the Medical Director and Chief Physician of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Asklepios Klinik Nord-Heidberg in Hamburg, Germany. He is widely recognized for his pioneering contributions to the development of intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (ioMRI), a technology that has significantly enhanced the precision of brain tumor resections by providing real-time imaging during surgery. His academic and clinical journey began with medical studies at the University of Innsbruck and the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel. He completed his specialized training in neurosurgery at the prestigious Heidelberg University Hospital, one of Germany’s premier medical centers, where he eventually served as a senior physician. In 2010, the University of Lübeck appointed him as an adjunct professor in recognition of his extensive scientific work and dedication to medical education. He remains a key faculty member, teaching neurosurgery at the Asklepios Campus Hamburg of Semmelweis University. Dr. Kremer’s clinical expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of neurosurgical conditions, with a primary focus on the treatment of complex brain and spinal tumors. He specializes in the removal of acoustic neuromas, pituitary adenomas, and malignant gliomas using advanced neuronavigation and intraoperative neuromonitoring. In the realm of research, Prof. Dr. Kremer has been a prolific contributor to advancing neuro-oncology and surgical technology. His habilitation focused on the use of albumin as a carrier for laser-induced fluorescence diagnostics and chemotherapy, aiming to improve the targeted treatment of malignant tumors. His work on shunt technology for hydrocephalus and the preclinical management of spinal trauma has also been widely cited. Through his integration of cutting-edge research with clinical practice, he continues to shape the standards of modern neurosurgical care.
