About the doctor

Prof. Dr. med. Gerhard Hindricks is a world-leading cardiologist and electrophysiologist who currently serves as the Head of Rhythmology and Chief Integration Officer at the German Heart Center of the Charité in Berlin. He is widely recognized as a pioneer in the interventional treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, having been part of the scientific team that performed the first radiofrequency catheter ablations in the late 1980s. Over his twenty-five-year tenure in Leipzig, he transformed the local heart center into a global center of excellence, performing thousands of complex interventions annually. In his current leadership role in Berlin, he is tasked with integrating Charité’s cardiology departments to create one of the most advanced heart centers in the world. Beyond his clinical and surgical expertise, Professor Hindricks is a driving force behind the digitalization of modern medicine. As the Chair of the ESC Digital Health Committee, he advocates for the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to uncover hidden diagnostic patterns in standard EKGs and to personalize patient care. His research focus has shifted toward large-scale prevention, notably leading the international PROFID trial to redefine risk stratification for sudden cardiac death. Through his work as an editor, educator, and researcher with nearly 1,000 peer-reviewed publications, he continues to set the international standards for how digital tools and patient-centered innovations can improve global access to cardiovascular care.
