How TPCE in Frankfurt Helped a Spanish Patient Treat Lung Metastases from Parotid Salivary Gland Cancer
Facing a rare and relentless diagnosis, the journey to healing can often feel like a marathon with an ever-shifting finish line. For Mr. Jesus, a deeply resilient patient from Spain, this marathon began with a difficult diagnosis of metastatic parotid salivary gland cancer that had unfortunately spread to his lungs and bones. His story is one of unwavering determination, illustrating what happens when a patient crosses international borders to find the exact combination of treatments needed to halt disease progression and reclaim hope.
A Relentless Fight
From the summer of 2023 into the spring of 2025, Jesus underwent an incredibly arduous series of medical interventions. His journey started with a major surgery in June 2023 to remove the affected salivary gland, which was quickly followed by adjuvant radiation therapy. Over the next year, he courageously participated in advanced clinical trials, receiving eleven cycles of experimental bispecific antibodies, alongside further palliative radiation for his spine and scalp to manage the spread of the disease.
Despite his incredible fighting spirit and an extensive medical regimen, a CT scan in March 2025 brought challenging news. The scan revealed bilateral nodules scattered throughout his lungs and mildly enlarged lytic lesions in his bones. The disease was still progressing, but the patient and his family were not ready to stop looking for answers.
Seamless Coordination and a New Approach
This search for innovative, targeted solutions led the family to the Airomedical platform. Understanding the urgency and complexity of the situation, the Airomedical team stepped in to fully arrange and coordinate a seamless medical journey to Germany. They connected Mr. Jesus with Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Vogl at the highly respected Interventional Radiology and Oncology Institute of the University Hospital Frankfurt am Main.
The new medical plan focused on a highly specialized, localized approach known as thoracic chemoembolization, or TPCE. Instead of relying on a single method, Mr. Jesus and his medical team decided to tackle the lung metastases from two different, complementary angles.
Bridging Care Between Spain & Germany
The treatment strategy required incredible coordination between his home in Spain and his new specialists in Frankfurt. Under the care of Prof. Vogl, the patient underwent a total of four TPCE sessions. This innovative procedure delivers targeted medication directly to affected lung areas, maximizing tumor impact while minimizing systemic side effects. To make the process as gentle on his body as possible, the four sessions were split into two separate arrivals. He completed the first two sessions in May 2025, rested for a month, and returned for the final two sessions in June 2025.
While undergoing this highly localized therapy in Germany, Mr. Jesus continued to fight the disease on a systemic level back home. In Spain, he successfully combined the TPCE procedures with standard systemic chemotherapy, specifically a blend of Carboplatin and Paclitaxel, ensuring the cancer was being suppressed throughout his entire body.

Encouraging Results and Renewed Hope
The dedication to this comprehensive, cross-border treatment plan truly paid off. Following the completion of his therapies, a recent CT scan brought a much-needed wave of relief. Compared with the difficult scans from earlier in the year, the new imaging showed a slight decrease in the size of the diffuse pulmonary nodules. The rest of his findings showed no significant changes, indicating that the aggressive progression of the disease had stabilized and that some of the lung lesions were actively shrinking.
Seeing the tide turn against the cancer has breathed profound new hope into Mr. Jesus and his loved ones. Reflecting on this recent medical victory, his family shared a beautifully optimistic update:
"From our side, the results seem encouraging and suggest that the treatment may be working."
Mr. Jesus’s ongoing journey stands as a powerful testament to the impact of expert, cross-border medical coordination, the brilliance of combining targeted local therapies like TPCE with systemic treatments, and above all, the incredible strength of a family that simply refuses to give up.
