Prof. Dr. med. Nikolaus A. Haas
pediatric cardiology, pediatric intensive care, congenital heart defects in adults, and interventional pediatric cardiology

About the department

The department of pediatric cardiology and intensive care at University Hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Munich specializes in diagnosing and treating children, adolescents and young adults with congenital heart defects, cardiovascular diseases, and provides intensive care for children and adolescents in our pediatric intensive care unit. Experienced doctors and caring nurses look after patients both outpatient and around the clock in our wards. Furthermore, the department of pediatric cardiology and intensive care cooperates with the department of cardio surgery, which simplifies providing all modern non-invasive, invasive and surgical diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. In addition, the department is one of the largest and most well-known centres in Germany for performing heart transplants and heart-lung complex in newborns and young children.

The department uses the latest treatment methods, such as 3D printed models of pediatric hearts with congenital heart disease. It has been proven helpful in simulation training of diagnostic and interventional catheterization. The department's primary focus is congenital and acquired heart diseases, acquired vessel diseases.
