Department of thoracic surgery

Prof. Dr. Molins Lopez-Rodo Laureano
thoracic surgery

About the department

The thoracic surgery department at Teknon Medical Center Barcelona is one of the leading centres in lung cancer and minimally invasive surgery. One of the main specializations of the department is the accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment of lung cancer, especially carcinoma. The surgeons have access to modern equipment, including automatic suture machines, allowing minimally invasive interventions without high risks. Complementary cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy have also improved in recent years and now provide better tolerability and efficacy for the patient. Also, doctors have successfully performed thoracic sympathectomy using video thoracoscopy for more than fifteen years. The surgery treats facial hyperemia and excessive sweating of the hands and armpits.

The department's surgeons have exceptional experience in minimally invasive thoracic surgery that does not require opening the chest. Patients have many advantages in this type of surgery: faster recovery, decreased postoperative pain, less scarring and blood loss, and reduced hospital stays. In addition, with the help of this technology, doctors successfully treat emphysema, pneumothorax, pulmonary fibrosis and empyema.
