Department of pediatric urology

Dr. Luis Garcia Aparicio
paediatric urology

About the department

The pediatric urology department at Teknon Medical Center Barcelona is one of the most experienced centres in Spain to treat kidney diseases in children. Doctors detect and treat diseases and malformations of the kidneys and urinary tract at the prenatal stage (before birth) in conjunction with the fetal medicine department. The department team works with the neonatology, obstetrics, urology and surgery teams. Doctors participate in various pediatric research and trials conducted by the Spanish Society of Pediatric Nephrology and Urology. The Spanish government also accredits the department for performing kidney transplants. More than 25% of transplants are from living donors, saving the child from dialysis.

The department specializes in the treatment of complex and rare kidney diseases. For example, the success rate in minimally invasive surgery in patients with congenital uropathy exceeds 90%. In addition, the department has a urodynamics unit to treat bladder dysfunction, employing highly qualified medical and medical staff. In addition to conducting examinations in the presence of the child's parents, each patient is provided with individual treatment. The department also has an adult transitional unit where chronic patients are followed up through the patient portal.
