About the department

The department of oncological surgery with HIPEC and PIPAC centres at Teknon Medical Center Barcelona provides comprehensive assistance in diagnosing, treating, and following cancer patients. The department's medical team consists of leading experts in various fields involved in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, organized into multidisciplinary committees where all patients are evaluated weekly and individually to agree on the best treatment option. Thanks to the experience of our team in oncology and modern technologies, at Teknon Medical Center, the department can offer patients comprehensive and personalized care for the detection and treatment of cancer, from the first symptoms to their development.

The department specializes in treating advanced forms of abdominal cancer and gynaecological diseases, especially those that affect the abdominal membrane. Patients are treated with a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. The unit is highly experienced in the HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) procedure, which combines chemotherapy and abdominal heating. In addition, doctors have received international recognition for their results in cytoreductive surgery, which is used in peritoneal carcinomatosis. Oncologists also use pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC). It's a new method of treatment in which chemotherapy is given in the form of an aerosol or spray. This procedure is safe for patients and has fewer side effects than conventional chemotherapy.
