oncology, haematology

About the department

The department of hemato-oncology at Teknon Medical Center Barcelona specializes in comprehensive and personalized care for detecting and treating blood cancers, from the onset of symptoms to their development. The department is structured so that the patient and his family have everything they need to carry out the treatment in the most convenient way. The head of the unit is a world-renown specialist in haematology and oncology with a particular interest in leukaemias and lymphomas. The department consists of a continuous patient care unit, radiotherapy and chemotherapy centre, a day hospital and an oncological pharmacy to prepare cytostatics. The medical team works 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Doctors pay special attention to the screening of blood cancers. In addition, specialists offer their patients an assessment of the risk of developing cancer-based on their personal and family history and the possibility of genetic testing for patients with a hereditary predisposition to cancer.

Doctors of the department have outstanding experience in treating haematological diseases such as leukaemias, lymphomas, myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative syndromes. The unit is equipped with advanced equipment for patients' radiation therapy. The doctors, physicists and technicians are highly skilled in using advanced radiation technology to improve treatment efficiency while minimizing the common unwanted effects of conventional radiation therapy. The department also operates an oncocardiological centre to avoid cardiovascular complications during chemotherapy.
