Alternative cancer treatment with biological immunotherapy

Biological immunotherapy is a way to treat cancer that uses the body's immune system to fight cancer cells. Antimalarial drugs, photosensitizers, herbal compounds, apoptosis inductors, antioxidants, high doses of vitamins, and other experimental drugs are used.   A doctor will usually thoroughly evaluate when deciding if such therapy is a good treatment option. Physical exams, imaging tests, and blood tests are done. A healthcare provider will work with the patient to make a treatment plan if it is a good treatment option. It could include choosing the type of therapy and determining when treatment will occur. Biological immunotherapy usually is given through an IV or as an injection. When someone is getting biological immunotherapy, their healthcare team will closely watch them. It is done to see how well the treatment works and if there are any side effects to help. Biological immunotherapy can target cancer cells in a specific way, which may have less of an effect on healthy cells and cause fewer side effects. By using the immune system to fight cancer, biological immunotherapy may have long-lasting effects and help stop cancer from returning. It can be used with other treatments, like chemotherapy or radiation therapy, which may improve the treatment.
