About the offer

Whipple surgery (pancreatoduodenectomy) is a complex procedure to remove the head of the pancreas, sometimes with part of the duodenum, stomach, common bile duct, and the nearest lymph nodes affected by cancer. Such a large volume of intervention helps to remove all tumor tissue with maximum probability and reduce the risk of relapse. When the decision on the operation is made, the patient has prescribed an examination. It includes an electrocardiogram, chest X-ray, abdominal ultrasound, blood tests, and other studies the surgeon deems necessary. An anesthesiologist talks to the patient and studies the anamnesis to select the correct remedy. The state of the cardiovascular system, allergic reactions, and general tolerance to anesthesia are considered. Whipple surgery is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes 4-5 hours. Classically, the operation is performed through a large incision running through the abdomen's middle. First, doctors remove all tissues affected by the malignant process. Then, the rest of the pancreas and the common duct are connected to the small intestine so that enzymes from the pancreas can continue to participate in digestion. After the operation, the patient is sent to intensive therapy, constantly supervised by medical personnel. Later, he is transferred to a regular ward for recovery.
