Bell's palsy treatment with conservative medications

Bell's palsy is when one side of the face goes weak. It usually happens when a facial nerve gets swollen due to viruses. To start treatment, doctors need to do a complete check-up. It includes the standard procedure and electromyography (EMG) test, which checks how the facial nerve and muscles work. Next, a neurologist consults the patient to ensure that the patient has Bell's palsy and not another problem like a tumor or a stroke that looks like it. Once the doctors are sure it's Bell's palsy, treatment must start quickly, ideally within 72 hours after the symptoms start. So it is because beginning treatment early can help the patient get better faster. The first step is usually to give the patient steroid pills. These pills help reduce swelling in the facial nerve, which is essential for getting the face to move normally again. Symptomatic treatments might be given depending on what the patient needs. For example, if patients have pain, they receive painkillers. If the patient can't close their eye, they might be given eye drops or an eye patch. If a virus has caused Bell's palsy, the patient also is given antiviral pills. Doctors sometimes suggest physical therapy and taking medications to strengthen facial muscles.
