Parotid gland cancer diagnosis

Parotid gland cancer might have some similar symptoms to other mouth diseases. So, to avoid unnecessary treatment and prevent possible harm, verifying the diagnosis is essential. At first, healthcare practitioners need to examine the patient's previous medical records and gather clinical history. After that, the patient will have an appointment with an oncologist who will conduct the earlier diagnosis and create a list of necessary lab tests and other medical diagnostic procedures. Tumor markers are necessary tests to help ensure the patient has a tumor. In contrast, inflammatory blood tests will help to exclude the most frequent diseases that might cause symptoms similar to parotid gland cancer. A complete blood count (CBC) and biochemical blood panel will also help exclude some of the non-cancerous causes of the patient's symptoms and help prescribe the most suitable treatment. During MRI and ultrasound of the parotid gland, medical practitioners can look closely at the parotid gland and determine any signs of tumorous growth. In some cases, a biopsy and histopathological specimen examination also might be required to verify the diagnosis. Still, histopathological specimen examination will be conducted in case of further surgical treatment, so it's not always necessary.
