Arteriovenous malformation diagnosis

An arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a knot of blood vessels that abnormally connect arteries and veins, stopping blood flow and oxygen. Diagnosing is critical for identifying AVM's presence, location, and appropriate treatment plan development. The diagnostic process is provided on an outpatient basis and takes several days. Diagnosing AVM involves thorough clinical history-taking, medical records review, physical examination, and a neurosurgeon consultation.  Several laboratory tests are conducted, including a complete blood count (CBC), biochemical analysis of blood (kidney and liver function tests, electrolytes, lipid panel), inflammation blood tests, and coagulation studies. These lab tests provide valuable information about the patient's overall health and potential risks of conditions associated with AVM. A neurological examination assesses the patient's cognitive function, motor skills, coordination, and reflexes. In addition, this exam helps to identify any neurological deficits and symptoms related to AVM. A crucial diagnostic tool for AVM is computed tomography angiography (CTA) of the head. This non-invasive imaging technique provides detailed images of the blood vessels in the brain, helping to identify the location and characteristics of the AVM. The cost of essential materials and nursing services is included. After the diagnosis, the patient receives discharge medical records and further recommendations for treatment or follow-up.
