Phlebological examination

Phlebology is the branch of medicine that deals with diagnosing and treating venous disorders, such as varicose disease and "spider" veins. A phlebological examination is a medical evaluation performed by a phlebologist. It is a doctor who specializes in the treatment of venous disorders. They evaluate the condition of a patient's veins. To prepare for a phlebological examination, it is recommended that the patient wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the legs. The patient should also avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing or hosiery on the examination day. During the exam, the phlebologist will estimate clinical history and medical records and physically examine the patient's legs, looking for signs of varicose veins or other venous disorders. The doctor may also use diagnostic tools, such as duplex ultrasound of the legs, to examine the blood flow and structure of the veins. CTA (CT angiography) may be recommended as an additional imaging test. Also, some lab tests, which show inflammation and coagulation, are performed. After the examination, the phlebologist will discuss the findings with the patient and recommend a treatment plan, if necessary. Treatment options for venous disorders may include lifestyle changes, compression stockings, sclerotherapy, or surgery.
