Lung cancer treatment with brachytherapy

Brachytherapy is "internal radiation therapy" to treat lung cancer. It is done by putting tiny radioactive sources into or close to the tumor. It lets a high radiation dose reach the cancer cells while minimal hurting to healthy tissue. Before treatment starts, the healthcare team will make a plan to figure out where to put the “seeds” in the best way. Radiologists do it with the help of HRCT scans. The sources are placed inside the body through a bronchoscope or a small cut inserted inside or near the tumor. The radioactive device is usually left in place for a particular time. It depends on the type of cancer, its location, and the radiation dose. The radioactive source is removed after the end of the treatment. Brachytherapy for lung cancer delivers a high radiation amount straight to the malignant cells, which can kill them more quickly. It reduces how much healthy tissue is exposed, lowering the risk of side effects. It's usually well tolerated and can be done without a patient staying in the hospital. Brachytherapy may be an option for people who can't get other radiation therapy, like those who can't go through surgery or have health problems.
