Urological examination

The urologist reviews the medical records during the urological exam and asks about symptoms and any relevant medical history. The physical examination, which includes the penis, scrotum, testicles, and surrounding areas for abnormalities, is done. The doctor may also perform a testicular exam for lumps or swelling and a digital rectal exam (DRE) to check the prostate gland's size, shape, and texture. The urologist may request a urine sample to check for abnormalities such as infection, inflammation, or the presence of blood. Semen analysis, blood tests for complete blood count (CBC), biochemical analysis, inflammation, and hormone testing are used. Also, a doctor may order further tests such as a PSA test, ultrasound of the pelvis and genitalia, and transrectal ultrasound used to diagnose any underlying conditions. Depending on the initial exam and urinalysis results, an additional cystoscopy can be ordered. A urological check-up aims to identify urological problems such as urinary tract infections, prostate problems, and testicular issues. Doctors can evaluate symptoms such as frequent urination, blood in the urine, and pain during urination. They monitor the progress of ongoing conditions, assess the effectiveness of treatments, and screen for diseases such as prostate or testicular cancer.
