Brain cancer treatment with targeted therapy using drugs that focuses only on tumor cells and do not harm healthy cells. Oncologists can prescribe it as the primary method or with other procedures — surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Targeted drugs block chemical signals that stimulate the growth and division of cancer cells, deliver killer substances, and prevent the appearance of new blood vessels that feed the tumor. Unlike traditional chemotherapy, targeted drugs recognize altered cells and selectively affect only them. The gentle effect allows doctors to prescribe them in cases where classical chemo is contraindicated, for example, in elderly patients. Depending on the active substance, different groups of drugs are used:Monoclonal antibodies. These substances recognize cancer cells, block oxygen flow, and disrupt tumor growth. Inhibitors of tyrosine, serine, and threonine kinase enzymes. They penetrate the cancer cell and change the essential metabolic processes.  To select a targeted therapy drug and determine the treatment duration, doctors prescribe an immunohistochemical study — an analysis of tumor tissues obtained by biopsy. It determines the brain tumor type and identifies genetic cell mutations. Finally, oncologists determine the number of courses individually for each patient. This is influenced by the diagnosis, the general state of health, the reaction of the tumor, and the body to medications.
