Myasthenia gravis treatment with robotic-assisted thymus removal

Robot-assisted surgeries, in general, are associated with fever rates of possible adverse effects, less pain in the post-surgery period, increased surgery success rates, and decreased recovery period after treatment. Various robotic systems, e. g. , the DaVinci robotic system, are actively used worldwide for multiple surgeries. Thymus removal surgery, also known as thymectomy, might also be performed with the help of similar robotic techniques. The patient must undergo a deep preparation process, including clinical history examination, surgeons, anesthesiologists, neurologists appointments, numerous lab tests, medical imaging procedures, and other diagnostic tests. This treatment requires general anesthesia. Before the start of the surgery, the patient is prepared on the table, and a robotic system port with cameras and manipulators is placed over them. Surgeons remain in a control room, while the rest of the team, including the anesthesiologist, remains in the operation room. By controlling the robot’s manipulators, surgeons reach the thymus and remove the organ, placing stitches at the end of the treatment session. Robotic-assisted surgeries are known for their high level of accuracy, and the risk of complications during surgery is very low.
