Brain tumor treatment with radiotherapy

Radiation treats small brain tumors or those that surgeons can't remove. It is sometimes recommended as an extra step after neurosurgery to lower the chance of recurrence. The most important part of the treatment is that the radioactive beams stop the tumor cells because of their high sensitivity to radiation. This approach aims to destroy cancer cells while minimizing side effects and keeping patients comfortable. Patients are evaluated so that the medical team can make a personalized treatment plan. These evaluations include a meeting with a radiation oncologist, lab tests, and an MRI scan. Pre-procedure and 3D radiation planning are essential steps for determining the dose and direction of the radiation beam. Patients lie on a table with a fixed mask during treatment, and the radiologist gives therapy based on the oncologist's parameters. MRI or CT scans check on the tumor during the procedure. The planning for treatment and the first session usually takes one to two hours, while subsequent sessions only take a few minutes. Post-procedure care and treatment for symptoms are given if the patient has discomfort. Radiotherapy can be performed without hospitalization. It means patients can keep their everyday lives and routines.
