Breast cancer treatment with immunotherapy

In breast cancer treatment, immunotherapy uses the patient's immune resources to destroy malignant cells. It combines several drugs that prevent tumors from hiding from the immune system's attacks. Usually, a woman's immunity recognizes and kills the first cancer cells, preventing the tumor from growing. But unfortunately, the tumor in the breast can disguise itself as healthy tissue. The drugs recognize and remove this disguise, and the patient's leukocytes actively destroy cancer and metastases. Therapy is only equally effective in some women. Therefore, oncologists conduct a preliminary examination. General and biochemical blood tests are performed, and the work of the kidneys is studied. In addition, blood pressure, pulse rate, and temperature are measured. Importantly, genetic and molecular tumor analyses show how successful the treatment will be. Immune preparations are intended for intravenous injection. First, the doctor determines the treatment regimen, type, and dosage of drugs based on the examination results. Then, the drug is injected intravenously once every few weeks. Immunotherapy is well tolerated, occasionally causing minor side effects (for example, fatigue, decreased appetite, nausea, and diarrhea).
