Nasal septum perforation treatment with surgical perforation repair

Surgical repair is the most widely spread nasal septum perforation treatment method nowadays. There are two main approaches: applying open and endoscopic techniques. Studies confirm that various endoscopic surgical repair methods are less likely to cause complications, better in avoiding adverse effects, and are associated with faster recovery than open surgeries. Patients might choose general and local anesthesia before surgery, but most surgeons suggest the first option. Doctors reach the perforation site and examine it via a tiny camera, removing all dead, severely inflamed, or damaged tissues and preparing to close the perforation by measuring it, examining contours, and analyzing its shape. Surgeons might use various methods to close the nasal septum perforation, including installing small splints, grafts, and one-sided or two-sided flaps. Parts of the patient’s bones, cartilage, hypoallergenic metals, and many more might be considered the primary structural materials. As the perforation is closed, ENT doctors carefully remove the endoscope and other instruments from the patient’s nasal cavity and insert tampons into the nose to control nasal bleeding if necessary. Those are subsequently removed the following day.
