Resective Epilepsy Surgery at Beta Clinic Bonn

Resective epilepsy surgery at Beta Clinic Bonn is delivered through the Beta International Epilepsy Centre in close cooperation with the clinic’s neurosurgery team, and is designed for people whose seizures remain uncontrolled and for whom a clearly localizable seizure focus can be identified and treated surgically. The center provides the full diagnostic work-up required to prepare for epilepsy surgery, including invasive localization methods such as the implantation of stereotactic electrodes to precisely map the epileptogenic zone. When resection is appropriate, the surgical strategy is selected based on where seizures start and what brain changes are present: the clinic describes “focus resection” as a curative approach (removing the seizure-generating area) and also offers broader resections when needed, including extended lesion resection (removing a structural abnormality and surrounding epileptogenic tissue) and lobectomy (removal of a brain lobe). In cases where seizure control requires it, resection can also be combined with disconnection procedures intended to interrupt seizure spread (palliative or combined resection–disconnection concepts).
