Liver cancer treatment with radiotherapy

Radiotherapy is a treatment that aims to kill cancer cells by using high-energy radiation. It is often used to treat liver cancer separately or with other treatments like surgery or chemotherapy. It is a non-invasive procedure that is typically administered on an outpatient basis. External beam radiation therapy is the most performed radiotherapy treatment for liver cancer. It is when a machine sends radiation to the liver from outside the body. Radiotherapy may be used to treat liver cancer. Still, it will depend on the type and stage of cancer and the patient's overall health and treatment preferences. It is used to shrink a tumor before surgery or to help to control cancer after surgery or chemotherapy. Before therapy, doctors will do CT or MRI scans that help the radiation oncologist target cancer while minimizing damage to healthy tissues. Then the simulation will allow the radiation oncologist to determine the tumor's location, size, and shape. Then the patient begins sessions. Each session lasts 15 to 30 minutes 5 days a week for a few weeks. After treatment, the radiation oncologist will assess the effect. Radiotherapy can cause side effects like tiredness, irritated skin, and sickness. They can be treated with medicines.
