Gastric band surgery

Gastric band surgery is designed to reduce weight. A silicone ring divides the stomach into large and small parts without violating its integrity. The gastric takes the form of an hourglass. The volume of the upper part is 20-30 ml. A small volume is quickly filled with a small portion of food, after which the brain receives a command about satiety. Food slowly moves through the stomach through a narrow opening in the bandage area. At the same time, a person feels a feeling of satiety for several hours, and the amount of food can be reduced several times. Gastric banding is performed laparoscopically through five small punctures. The bandage is inserted into the abdomen and fixed just below the level of the connection of the esophagus with the stomach. Punctures are sewn with cosmetic stitching. The total duration of the operation is about 30 minutes. Then the patient is placed in the postoperative ward until awakening. After the operation, the silicone ring is filled with saline (by microinjections through the skin of the peritoneum). Thus, it is possible to adjust the bandage's compression degree and create a comfortable nutrition system for the patient. At the request of the patient, the dressing can be removed entirely.
