The department of psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy at University Hospital Frankfurt am Main of Goethe-University is a modern, evidence-based medical facility for mental illnesses. The team, including 5 professors, forms numerous research groups that study mood disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), schizophrenia, and neurodegenerative disorders. The department's structure counts over 20 specialized outpatient clinics, including a clinic for foreign-speaking patients. In addition, the department has 6 psychiatric wards (120 beds), and single or double rooms can be reserved for private patients.
The main areas of treatment in the department are mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorders that are difficult to treat, developmental, psychiatric disorders (mainly adult ADHD), schizophrenic disorders, alcohol withdrawal, eating disorders, and trauma disorders. Comprehensive treatment organized at the department is based on the combination of pharmacotherapy (medications), psychotherapy, and supplementary methods, such as occupational therapy, social and pastoral service, groups for family members, and physical therapy.
