Department of orthopaedics

The department of orthopaedics at University Hospital Frankfurt am Main of Goethe-University has 88 beds and 260 employees to care for around 4000 inpatients and approximately 17,000 outpatients every year. In addition, about 600 joint prostheses are implanted in the EndoProsthetics Center every year. The Friedrichsheim school for physiotherapy with 120 students is one of the largest training facilities for physiotherapy in Germany. For diagnosis, the centre has a state-of-the-art digital X-ray machine and a new magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) and computer tomography (CT). In addition, the department has a digital EOS X-ray machine, which produces 3D images of the skeleton as part of diagnostics and surgical planning, including endoprosthesis, spinal and conversion interventions. Since 2020, the spinal division of the department has been a recognized specialist spine centre of the German Spine Society (DWG) and Surgical Spine Center of Excellence of the European Society for Spine Surgery EUROSPINE. 

A full spectrum of diseases of the musculoskeletal system of all age groups is treated at the department. Offered treatment includes minimally invasive, open surgery, endoprosthetic, endoscopic, sports- and oncological surgery. Additionally, conservative and physiotherapeutic treatment methods are utilized.
