Department of cardiovascular surgery
The department of cardiovascular surgery at University Hospital Frankfurt am Main of Goethe-University works together with the employees of cardiology, anesthesiology, intensive care medicine, and radiology and forms the “Heart Team” of the UHF. As a university maximum care provider, the department treats complex diseases in the best possible way. An experienced team performs over 1,500 procedures annually. 22 doctors work in the medical team, including 7 senior physicians. In addition to clinical work, the department serves teaching and research functions. The scientists support the planning, evaluation, and publication of national and international clinical studies, application of observations/registers, drug studies of phases II-IV, approval studies according to the Medical Devices Act, cooperation in research with medical associations, primary research, and material design.
In heart surgery, the range of treatment possibilities includes beating heart bypass surgery, modern valve reconstruction procedures, interventional procedures on heart valves, therapy for thoracic aorta diseases, and therapy for heart failure with artificial heart implantations. Special hours are dedicated to coronary, aortic, valve, and heart failure consultations.
