Department of gastroenterology with GERD centre

Prof. Dr. med. Jurgen Stein
gastroenterology

About the department

The department of gastroenterology with GERD centre at Academic Hospital Sachsenhausen Frankfurt am Main deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gastrointestinal tract diseases. Medical and technological progress allows doctors to carry out more gentle diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. In the department, specialists conduct more than 4,000 endoscopic interventions per year. Equally important is the interdisciplinary and holistic diagnosis and therapy of tumour diseases. Oncologists, psychologists and nutritionists work to provide highly specialised medical care. Close cooperation with the University Center for Tumor Diseases Frankfurt guarantees compliance with modern oncological standards.

The key focus is on chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, which in most cases can be treated conservatively. However, special attention is paid to hernia surgery. In the department, it is possible to perform an open operation through a groin incision and laparoscopic methods. In addition, the department participates in a quality assurance program for all hernia surgeries, which enhances the quality of patient care.
