Department of thoracic surgery

The department of thoracic surgery at University Hospital rechts der Isar of the Technical University (TUM) Munich is integrated into an interdisciplinary lung centre with a comprehensive range of clinical services and innovative research approaches. The department has a state-of-the-art operating room and inpatient beds in a traditional thoracic surgery ward. A team of nursing professionals with many years of experience looks after the patients during their inpatient stay. The preparation for an operation can also occur as part of a short outpatient (pre-hospital) presentation so that patients - if they wish - only have to come to the clinic on the actual day of the operation. The renowned thoracic surgeon leading the department previously worked for more than 18 years as a senior consultant in one of the largest and most respected lung clinics in Europe.

The department performs the entire spectrum of thoracic surgery, focusing on minimally invasive and oncological thoracic surgery, emphysema surgery, and tracheal surgery. Additionally, there is an emphasis on pediatric thoracic surgery and a special interdisciplinary team created.
