About the department

The department of psychosomatics and psychotherapy at University Hospital rechts der Isar of the Technical University (TUM) Munich is focused on the interaction of body (soma) and soul (psyche). Experienced therapists treat all psychosomatic illnesses on an outpatient, day clinic, and inpatient basis and work interdisciplinary with other hospital departments. The department has 5 scientific working groups developing the science of psychosomatics and a university training centre that includes courses on psychosomatic medicine and palliative medicine. There is a certified quality management system to provide world-class care for patients. This includes regular proof of treatment and support processes of ongoing improvement in process quality and patient orientation. Over 40 physicians and psychologists work at the department, led by an internationally recognized professor with over 35 decades of experience.

Areas of interest in the department include such conditions: persistent, unclear, and distressing physical complaints; general mental disorders; physical illnesses with psychological influencing factors and consequences requiring treatment. Treatment options include psychosomatic counselling sessions or psychosomatic co-supervision.
