Department of interventional radiology

Prof. Dr. med. Philipp M. Paprottka
interventional radiology, clinical radiology

About the department

The department of interventional radiology at University Hospital rechts der Isar of the Technical University (TUM) Munich has four experts in interventional radiology and a team of angiography nurses and medical-technical-radiological specialists. It offers innovative image-guided, minimally invasive treatments of vessels, organs, and tumours as a low-pain and low-risk alternative to open surgical procedures. The department operates with the latest technology, specialist expertise, and personal attention to each patient. There are two state-of-the-art angiography workstations and a separate patient waiting area for the stay before and after treatment.

In particular, the department's specialization includes focal points of angiography (radiological visualization of vessels) and percutaneous CT-fluoroscopically controlled interventions. In addition, the following types of treatments are performed: vascular-opening interventions (e.g. recanalization in peripheral arterial occlusive disease, PAOD) and vascular-preserving therapies (e.g. in the case of aneurysms), vaso-occlusive measures (e.g. in the case of acute bleeding), and all types of intra-arterial tumour therapies (oncological interventions, e.g. radioembolization, TACE, etc.).
