About the department

The department of thoracic surgery at Nordwest Hospital Frankfurt am Main offers the full range of lung and chest cavity surgery. German Cancer Society certified the department as a Lung Cancer Center so that patients can expect treatment according to international medical standards. Thoracic surgeons work with pulmonologists, oncologists, and radiation therapists to develop the most effective treatment regimen. Upon admission to the department, patients undergo complex diagnostics, including ultrasound and radiological methods, examination of the function of external respiration and endoscopic procedures. All operating rooms are equipped with advanced modern equipment that allows surgeons to perform video-assisted thoracoscopic operations even in the most challenging clinical cases. This surgical intervention is completed with 2-3 small incisions using a miniature camera with a microscope and special surgical instruments.

The main direction of the medical team is the surgical treatment of lung cancer and metastases, malignant tumours of the mediastinal organs, chest wall and pleura. Also, thoracic surgeons successfully perform operations to correct various deformities of the chest, benign tumours and infectious diseases of the respiratory system. Throughout the therapeutic process, patients are accompanied by nursing staff, who create a comfortable and friendly atmosphere.
