radiation oncology

About the department

The department of radiation oncology at Nordwest Hospital Frankfurt am Main specializes in diagnosing and treating cancers of all organs. The department admits about 1,400 inpatients annually. In addition, the medical team treats about the same number of outpatients, including about 400 breast cancer patients and more than 200 prostate cancer patients annually. According to Focus magazine, the department is among the best medical facilities in Germany for radiation therapy of oncological diseases. Since 2016, the department has installed one of the most modern linear accelerators in the country. NOVALIS, powered by True Beam STx from VARIAN and Brainlab, is at the forefront of radiotherapy technology and offers patients a very gentle and highly effective tumour treatment. The main goal of radiation therapy for cancer is to expose gamma rays to only the tumour and as little surrounding tissue as possible. Before applying radiation therapy, the department's specialists conduct a thorough diagnosis using 3T magnetic resonance imaging, 64-slice computed tomography and angiography.

The department's oncologists and radiation therapists have exceptional experience in treating malignant tumours of the breast, prostate, lungs and gastrointestinal tract. In addition to radiotherapy, the medical team uses chemotherapy, monoclonal antibody therapy and combined radiosurgery. Doctors also specialize in treating arthrosis, heel spurs and achillodynia.
