About the department

The department of general, abdominal, endocrine, and minimally invasive surgery at Nordwest Hospital Frankfurt am Main deals with diagnosing and treating all surgical diseases of the internal organ, abdominal wall, digestive tract and endocrine organs. The department performs more than 2,500 surgical interventions annually outpatient. In addition, there are a lot of endoscopic colon procedures and a large number of outpatient procedures. The operating rooms of the department strictly comply with hygiene and safety standards, which exclude infectious risks for the health of the patient and the surgeon. Furthermore, the department offers state-of-the-art facilities for detecting malignant diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including DEGUM high-performance ultrasound diagnostics, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, high-quality endoscopy, and laboratory and biochemical tests.

The main directions of the department's surgeons are treating diseases of the pancreas and liver, the stomach and oesophagus, diseases of the oesophagal organs, and malignant and benign tumours of organs. Surgeons pay special attention to the surgical treatment of hernias. The department has been awarded the seal of excellence in hernia surgery by the German Hernia Society. Surgeons try to carry out all interventions using minimally invasive techniques, which is an excellent advantage for the patient.
