About the department

The bariatric and metabolic surgery department at Nordwest Hospital Frankfurt am Main offers a comprehensive treatment concept for the prevention and treatment of obesity. The department is a leader in bariatric surgery in Frankfurt and the surrounding area and is certified by the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery for high-quality treatment and outstanding experience. At an individual consultation, doctors interview the patient, conduct a physical examination, determine the causes of obesity, and prescribe diagnostic tests. After a thorough diagnosis, a team of doctors, which consists of therapists, surgeons, nutritionists, psychologists and physiotherapists, selects a tailored treatment therapy. For patients who wish to lose extra pounds on an outpatient basis, the department offers the OPTIFAST®52 method. Doctors prescribe a special diet and select the necessary complex of physical activity. During the entire treatment period, the patient is under the supervision of experienced doctors who, if necessary, make adjustments to any aspects of the program.

The department's medical team offers surgical treatment only if diet, drug therapy, exercise and diet therapy, and psychological support do not bring long-term success. The department has been successfully performing operations to treat obesity since 1970. Surgeons use endoscopic procedures as well as metabolic and reflux surgery procedures. In addition, doctors specialize in gastric sleeve surgery, gastric bypass, gastric banding and intragastric balloon placement. The department's primary goal is patients who are satisfied with their appearance.
