Department of urology with prostate centre

Dr. med. Hans Jorg Sommerfeld

About the department

The department of urology with prostate centre at Marien Hospital Marl provides a full range of services in diagnosing and treating diseases of the genitourinary system, including malignant conditions. Medical aid is provided to both adults and children. The department includes 62 beds for inpatient treatment. A team of specialists has been using the advanced minimally invasive DaVinci robotic system for more than ten years, which reduces the postoperative period by five times. Since 2021, the department has installed the latest generation of Da Vinci Xi, allowing even more precise, minimally invasive operations. Based on the department, there is also a Prostate Treatment Center, which is the first in the city of Marl and the second in Germany certified by the international quality standard DIN EN ISO 9001. Only diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are carried out in the prostate treatment centre, the effectiveness of which has been scientifically proven and recognised worldwide.

The department covers the entire spectrum of operative and conservative urology. The focus is on extensive tumour surgery for prostate, bladder, kidneys and testicles, pediatric urology and treatment of urinary incontinence. The patient's treatment and the therapeutic strategy's determination are carried out in close consultation and collaboration with fellow residents. In addition, the department has three devices for laser therapy, which allows the use of modern techniques to treat many urinary diseases.
