About the department

The department of general, abdominal surgery and coloproctology at Marien Hospital Marl provides the full range of services in general surgery, endocrine, abdominal and colon surgery. All operations are performed minimally invasively without a large incision in the abdominal cavity, reducing recovery time. Procedures can be done on an outpatient and inpatient basis. The department has established an interdisciplinary intestinal centre for colon and rectal cancer treatment and has received a quality certificate from the Cancer Center of the German Cancer Society, which confirms high-level medicine. Experienced doctors have developed a structured treatment concept to improve the care of patients with malignant tumours significantly. Interventions are performed using robotic surgery, such as the da Vinci method. The department provides 24-hour emergency assistance.

The main directions of the department are visceral surgery, proctology, and endocrine surgery. Visceral surgery covers the entire spectrum of benign and malignant and acute and chronic inflammatory diseases. In addition, specialists in the department diagnose and treat pathological conditions of tissues that produce hormones. Operations are performed on the thyroid gland, parathyroid gland and adrenal glands.
