IRCCS San Donato Polyclinic

San Donato Policlinic Research Hospital is the most prominent and highly regarded Italian institution dedicated to cardiovascular care. Accredited by the Italian National Health Service (SSN), it partners with the Università degli Studi di Milano to host the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery.   Established in 1969, the hospital spans 50,000 square meters in the southeastern area of Milan. This multi-specialty facility leads the nation and ranks among Europe’s top centers for the volume and complexity of cardiac surgeries and interventional cardiology procedures performed on pediatric and adult patients. The hospital conducts over 1,000 pediatric procedures, more than 1,000 adult cardiac surgeries, and around 6,000 interventional cardiology procedures each year.   The arrhythmology and electrophysiology Department at San Donato is recognized for performing one of the highest cardiac ablations globally, exceeding 1,400 annually. The hospital also houses a research center focused on advancing knowledge of heart and vascular conditions in adults and children. The Italian Ministry of Health officially recognizes it as a Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization, and Health Care (IRCCS).   San Donato is also a pioneer in international cooperation and charitable initiatives, particularly in treating children with congenital heart diseases through collaboration with the “Bambini Cardiopatici nel Mondo” association. Over 3,000 children worldwide have benefited from this program. Since 2019, Policlinico San Donato has hosted the National Institute for Obesity Cure (INCO), a leading national center for the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of obesity. INCO integrates dietary, psycho-behavioral, and surgical interventions, including the latest video-assisted laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques.
