Department of radiation oncology

The radiation oncology department at Helios Hospital Krefeld offers all modern types of radiotherapy at the highest level. The department's medical team works on advanced medical equipment, thanks to which it is possible to effectively irradiate pathological foci while ensuring minimal impact on adjacent healthy tissues. The primary attention in clinical practice is paid to treating malignant diseases of various localisation and metastases. The department specialises in brachytherapy, which only a few clinics offer in Germany. The essence of therapy lies in the radiation source being injected directly into the tumour. In the department's certified oncology centre, medicine is used for head and neck tumours, lung and oesophagal tumours, liver metastases and gynaecological tumours. The therapy is carried out by a highly specialised team of radiation oncologists, medical physicists and interventional radiologists.

In addition to treating malignant diseases, doctors offer radiation therapy for chronic pain in the joints, bones and soft tissues, varicose veins and haemorrhoids. For example, together with the urology department, specialists successfully treat benign prostatic hyperplasia with arterial embolisation. Radiologists have been performing this procedure since 2015 and have had great success in terms of treatment results.
