About the department

The department of neurology at Helios Hospital Krefeld specializes in diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitation patients with nervous system disorders. Identifying the disease and its causes is the first important step. The department uses the latest ultrasound techniques, magnetic resonance imaging, neurophysiological methods and imaging processes to display brain metabolism (e.g. DatScan). The department includes a specialized national ultramodern stroke unit, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The intensive care unit can monitor blood pressure, blood sugar, pulse, temperature and oxygen saturation around the clock. In addition, the department offers stroke patients early rehabilitation to help restore or compensate for lost abilities.

The department excels in treating multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease and chronic headache. On the one hand, the therapy aims to eliminate the cause and, on the other hand, to alleviate the symptoms, for example, effectively eliminating nerve pain. A wide range of treatments is available today, of which experienced professionals work with the patient to find the best strategy to maintain an individual's quality of life. An integral part of therapy is developing an individual treatment plan. Other essential pillars are physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and specialized care.
